Doi Ruhi – Easy Home Recipe



Doi Rui is an easy-to-make Bengali fish curry recipe which can be an ideal pair for steamed rice. Prepared with Rohu fish, curd, ginger-garlic paste, green chillies and some spices, this dish can be perfect for the bachelor’s kitchen! Dahi machha is a traditional Odia delicacy made of fish in a spicy yogurt based sauce. It is eaten usually served with rice as an accompaniment. Dahi Machha Jhola is liberally seasoned with turmeric, onions, garlic, mustard and garam masala. The use of turmeric imparts a yellow colour to the sauce base. Before being served, chopped fresh cilantro may be sprinkled on top for added flavour as well as enhanced appearance.

The kinds of fish that typically used in Oriya households are ilish (called ilisi), rohu (called rohi), and catla (called bhakura). Apart from these, there are some very famous small sized fish that are normally favoured over others.

3 pcs rohu fish 1/2 tsp garlic paste
4 green chillies 1/2 tsp ginger paste
1 red chilli 1/2 tsp jira pwoder
1/2 tsp gota jira 1/2 tsp dhone pwoder
1/2 black pepper 2 tsp onion paste
100 gm yoghurt (curd) 2 tsp mustard oil
salt as required 5 gm garam masala
1 tsp sugar 2 bay leaf
1 tsp poppy seed paste

Step 1: Wash the fish pieces and keep them in a bowl/plate with little salt. Paste garlic, ginger and onion.

Step 2: Heat 1 tsp musterd oil in a pan over medium heat and fry fish on it and after fry keep it aside.

Step 3: Now add 1 tsp more musterd oil, add gota jira, gota garam masala, 1 red chilli and 2 bay leaf.

Step 4: Now add garlic, ginger and onion paste and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes.

Step 5: Then add jira, dhone and salt as per taste, stir-fry in low flame for 2-3 minutes.

Step 6: Masala is ready, now add poppy seed paste and curd with black pepper, make it gravy.

Step 7: When gravy is ready add fry fish on it and add 1 tsp sugar.

Final Step: Doi rui ready for server, search it hot with hot rice.
